Devin Doherty and Doherty Real Estate Group The Strength of a Team: Blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, a drive to succeed and the strength of a supportive and encouraging family, Devin Doherty proved his mettle early in life. Growing up in Chicago, he displayed a remarkable technological acumen while still in elementary school; he even earned a prize for building a computer in the 1970s. The oldest of five children he was outgoing and ambitious, selling various products door to door and garnering awards for his efforts. After his family relocated to California in 1979, Devin caught the eye of IBM headhunters, who recruited him into an executive management program when he was just 14 years old. After completing an intense training curriculum he launched a technology career that thrived until the market crash of the late 1980s. Devin’s interest in technology fueled his entrepreneurial efforts as he helped found and develop a number of Web 1.0 companies. “Some were successes and some weren’t,” he recalls. “But I loved the process of navigating and facilitating deals. I thrived on being involved in the business development aspect of these companies.” His firsthand accounts of what worked –and what didn’t- in business provided Devin with invaluable experience as he prepared for a new challenge as a real estate professional. After acquiring his license he embarked upon the journey through a career that would enable him to maximize his business, technological and interpersonal skills. Two decades later he continues to excel in his field, earning a reputation as one of the region’s leading agents. Early in his real estate career, Devin’s focus was on building an investment portfolio of distressed and short sale properties. In addition to scouting properties, he soon became hands-on with rehabilitation efforts as well. In 2000 he devoted himself to real estate as a project manager, licensed contractor and agent. For over five years he enjoyed success as a spec home builder before adapting his business in a transitioning market. “We saw signs that indicated significant changes, and were able to adjust our business model accordingly,” he explains. His adaptability has enabled Devin to maintain a flourishing business despite market challenges.
