Devin Doherty and Doherty Real Estate Group The Strength of a Team: Blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, a drive to succeed and the strength of a supportive and encouraging family, Devin Doherty proved his mettle early in life. Growing up in Chicago, he displayed a remarkable technological acumen while still in elementary school; he even earned a prize for building a computer in the 1970s. The oldest of five children he was outgoing and ambitious, selling various products door to door and garnering awards for his efforts. After his family relocated to California in 1979, Devin caught the eye of IBM headhunters, who recruited him into an executive management program when he was just 14 years old. After completing an intense training curriculum he launched a technology career that thrived until the market crash of the late 1980s. Devin’s interest in technology fueled his entrepreneurial efforts as he helped found and develop a number of Web 1.0 companies. “Some were successes and some weren’t,” he recalls. “But I loved the process of navigating and facilitating deals. I thrived on being involved in the business development aspect of these companies.” His firsthand accounts of what worked –and what didn’t- in business provided Devin with invaluable experience as he prepared for a new challenge as a real estate professional. After acquiring his license he embarked upon the journey through a career that would enable him to maximize his business, technological and interpersonal skills. Two decades later he continues to excel in his field, earning a reputation as one of the region’s leading agents. Early in his real estate career, Devin’s focus was on building an investment portfolio of distressed and short sale properties. In addition to scouting properties, he soon became hands-on with rehabilitation efforts as well. In 2000 he devoted himself to real estate as a project manager, licensed contractor and agent. For over five years he enjoyed success as a spec home builder before adapting his business in a transitioning market. “We saw signs that indicated significant changes, and were able to adjust our business model accordingly,” he explains. His adaptability has enabled Devin to maintain a flourishing business despite market challenges. Aligning himself with a team of knowledgeable and dedicated professionals, he continues to navigate successful transactions for his growing clientele. In 2009 Devin moved from a role as a broker/owner to join the team of professionals at Keller Williams Realty in Mission Viejo. As a member of his office’s Agent Leadership Council, Devin works closely with his colleagues to identify solutions to industry challenges, study trends to discover opportunities, and incorporate best practices into their businesses. “I have never been involved in any organization that takes the concept of mastermind meetings so seriously,” he observes. “Working together, agents at Keller Williams create an atmosphere of positivity and abundance. We’re not in constant competition with each other; we are inspiring one another to achieve greater success.” As Chairman of his office’s technology department, Devin also shares the tools and techniques that have helped him achieve success. We have developed a system that allows potential landlords to screen renters online, where they’ll have access to pertinent information on prospective tenants. Our short sale clients can get pre-approved online and focus on viewing the properties they qualify to move into. It saves them time and preserves their dignity during a very difficult transition.” Devin’s unique rental system is proof positive that he and his team are developing lifelong relationships with their clients. Protecting their credit enables clients to once again become homeowners when their financial situations have improved. In meeting the needs of a diverse clientele, Devin and his team are adapting their business model accordingly. Among their strategies in 2012 are plans to continue to develop their luxury brand, which offers targeted marketing for unique and distinctive properties. To best maintain a team that consistently meets the needs and expectations of their clientele, Devin has developed systems that measure client satisfaction and foster a sense of accountability within his group. “We initiate dialogues and set up expectations for ourselves and our clients before every transaction,” he reveals. “That starts us out on an even keel. When we understand our clients’ priorities, we can adapt our approaches accordingly to create what we describe as a ‘10+’ experience.” From communication styles to the amount and type of information that is disseminated to their clients, members of The Doherty Group strive to facilitate transactions that are specifically tailored to each individual’s wants and needs. They follow up with all parties involved in a transaction including escrow, title, buyers, sellers and their representing agents, in an attempt to consistently improve upon their levels of service. As a result, the group has built a loyal clientele with upwards of 60% of their transactions stemming from repeat and referral business.
